Ain’t No Party Like A MyHome2.0 Block Party

November 14, 2007 – 5:51 pm

So last Saturday, despite the bitter cold, I dropped by a MyHome2.0 Block Party that Jim and Lloyd invited me to. Above is a roughly edited video of the event (uploaded using YouTube’s new Multi-Video Uploader, hooray for the increase from 100 mb to 1 gig!) and you can find photos at Flickr. As you can tell, the street was pretty packed despite the weather, with tons of families enjoying the free food, entertainment, raffles, and information about Verizon FIOS.

Since it was a family event, I brought along my folks, who are surprisingly curious and enthusiastic about fiber optic speed. After asking the Verizon representatives dozens of questions (mainly variations of why doesn’t my neighborhood have FIOS yet?), they went around participating in the assorted carney games until they won some t-shirts and stuffed animals. When we finally left the block party, it felt like exiting some modern-day tech-oriented county fair.

Unfortunately, I won’t be able to attend the next block party this Saturday due to the Pittsburgh Game Jam and Pitt’s legal/business seminar, but here’s the relevant information in case you want to attend.

It’s this Saturday, November 17th, 12-4 pm at Concord Drive & Chase Place in Allison Park, PA. There should be a good number of local bloggers attending and even one blogger coming from out of town, C.C. Chapman (also a longtime podcaster). Looks like a pretty packed weekend if you’re a technophile in the area. Let me know if you plan on attending any of these events.

  2. …cuz a My Home 2.0 block party don’t stop!

(Actually they do, unfortunately, but I couldn’t resist the urge to riff on your blog title, Jia.)

Thanks again for coming out, man, glad you and your folks had a good time. Sorry FiOS isn’t in their neighborhood yet, but don’t give up the dream…Verizon’s working on it!

  3. Hey thanks for coming out to the block party!

Hope you had fun. The last block party was a blast. All of the Pittsburgh episodes should be VERY entertaining!
Thanks again and enjoy your day!
