Upcoming Pittsburgh Events
September 24, 2007 – 3:22 pmAt the request of Josh Sager, here’s a brief list of upcoming local events that might be of interest:
Tuesday, September 25, 2007 from 3:30 pm - 5:00 pm @ CMU CIC Lecture Hall
Olympus Show and Tell 2 = It’s just like those “show and tells” you had as a kid, except it’s CMU PhDs showing off cool new technology they’re developing. I’m looking forward to talking with Eric Brown and Asi Burak, who developed the innovative PeaceMaker Middle East simulation game.
Friday, September 28th through Sunday September 30th @ Heinz Field
2007 ImPAct Conference = Costs about $100 to attend, but I know some of the people speaking and helping out, like Jessica Trybus, Luke Skurman, and Jackie Vesci. So at least I can vouch that those sessions will be good.
Saturday, September 29th, from 4:00 pm - 7:30 pm @ Riverside Renegade
Pittsburgh IGDA Paintball = Come play the real world version of a FPS with a bunch of local game developers, students, multimedia people, etc…please, we actually need more people to sign up! I’ll even give people rides if I can also drag you to the next event too.
Friday, September 28th, 8:00 pm to September 29th, 8:00 pm @ the Creative Treehouse
24 Hour Creative Marathon = Pretty self-explanatory. We gather a bunch of artists together, give them a theme (Lost & Found), and lock them up for 24 hours straight until they create great art that we can sell for charity the next night. It’s pretty awesome. I think I’m scheduled to guard the door and blog about the craziness that results. Not exactly sure how that’ll work out since I’ll be working on this blog and playing paintball also during those 24 hours, but it should be fun.
Anyway, if you have any questions about these events or would like to add your own, leave some comments. Also, is this sort of thing useful for other people? If there’s enough demand, I might create a publicly shared Google calendar or something for local events. Also, you should check out the always great and useful I Heart PGH for more local events (Lindsay’s events tend to have broader appeal since they’re less geeky than mine).

I was just about set up an events page on my blog/portfolio because I run into events all the time that are sent out to Creative TreeHouse. Maybe we should set up one site where everyone could submit important events that forward thinking people should be attending and why. What you think?

Yeah, that’s a good idea. Maybe an events widget that people can embed on their own blogs/sites that is linked to a central database/site? Not sure if Google calendar currently supports that. I was at their offices just a few hours ago, maybe I should have asked them…
Anyway, let’s talk more about this at the marathon this weekend.
